iThemba Lethu

SOUTH AFRICA

We partner to support the orphaned and vulnerable child transition homes and the running of a breast milk bank, the first of it’s kind in Southern Africa. There are two transition homes to care for 12 babies and children, aged newborn and 3 years old, who have been abandoned/orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. The aim is the reunification/adoption of 5 – 8 orphaned/abandoned babies and children, into permanent families, each year. The breast milk bank provides the nutritional needs for HIV orphaned babies.

The project provides loving care to babies and children who have been orphaned or abandoned as a result of HIV/AIDS and facilitates the children’s adoption or reunification into loving family homes of their own. Children are given the care they need in iThemba Lethu’s transition homes until they are healthy, and until a loving family is found.

At current funding levels we are achieving the following each year:

    • To maintain two transition homes to care for 12 babies and children, aged newborn and 3 years old, who have been abandoned/orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. We are committed to providing a safe, secure and loving family home environment for these babies/children to develop mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

    • To facilitate the reunification/adoption of 5 – 8 orphaned/abandoned babies and children, into permanent families, each year. We strives to maintain harmonious relationships with the numerous local Welfare Organizations to ensure that iThemba Lethu is a pivotal point of placement for any baby/child (newborn to 3 years old) that is left vulnerable, is available for reunification/adoption and is not physically challenged. iThemba Lethu facilitates the child’s reunification/adoption into a permanent family

  • Promote benefits of breastfeeding. The Breastmilk Bank promotes and educates lactating mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding their infants. As well as encouraging breast feeding mothers, locally and internationally, to donate their breast milk for the health and nutrition of the abandoned/orphaned babies in the transition homes.

With more donations we can facilitate the reunification/adoption of more orphaned/abandoned babies and children, into permanent families. $1,000 helps with 4 reunification/adoptions. Donate Now.
